Artist's Description
This batik image is filled with vibrant energy as the horses, wrapped in colors of a stormy sky, leap out of the sky, merging with the wind. This image shows the breathe of the horses as merging with all around the horses, as the breath we breath is shared by us all. The Tjanting tool played a major role in the creation of this batik image. Brushes were also used to paint wax on areas of color. This batik horse took some months for me to complete, and required many dyebaths as well as discharge dyeing to achieve the multi color effects. The batik was done starting with black fabric and went through extensive stages of bleaching and re-dyeing to achieve the stormy effects of the thunderstorm. The horses represent lightning and thunder from the sky, with the peaceful horse lying at the bottom waiting for the storm to pass.
